Morris Girls Europe Trip 2016 Part I {July 17-July 21}

Sunday July 17

I drove down to Portland Sunday morning with the kids and met Jess at church. My mom took us to the airport, I said goodbye to my two kiddos and we headed for the first leg of our journey: Calgary. We arrived in Calgary but there was lightening and we had to stay on our plane for over an hour. We got off the plane and our flight to Frankfurt hadn't left yet. A lady helped us get our bags, go through customs, recheck our bags then go through security. Just as we got to the other side of security, the lady told us we didn't make it. We were pretty devastated because we had no idea when the next flight to Frankfurt would be. We went back to the ticket counter and the lady who rebooks tickets was on a break. We waited for quite some time then finally got rebooked for the next day and they graciously put us up in a hotel. We made it to our hotel around 9:00pm, then ate dinner at the restaurant there and went to bed.

Monday July 18

We ate crepes at the hotel then flew to Toronto. Then from Toronto we flew Frankfurt. Because of the time difference, that was our whole day!

Tuesday July 19

In Frankfurt we were supposed to have a 6hr layover but we saw that there was an earlier flight so after a long time and talking to several different airline people, we finally got switched to an earlier flight.

10:30am-We arrived in Luxembourg and Becky and crew picked us up. We went back to Becky's place to eat lunch and relax and have naps. I had a great little nap to give me a boost for the rest of the day. I hadn’t slept at all on the plane.

After naps Becky showed us around downtown Luxembourg. We saw the plazas and the palace and the golden lady. Jessica and I got a pastry and Becky and the kids got ice cream. Then we went to the pirate ship park and the kids played for a bit.

For dinner we had tacos and relaxed for the remainder of the evening.

Wednesday July 20

We rode the bus to the market and bought some apricots. Then we visited the case mates. The case mates are these tunnels in walls that used to be a sort of fortress. It was nice and cool in the casemates and a great way to see the city. We went home for lunch and naps. After naps we went to Auchan (a large grocery store in Luxembourg) and bought some food for dinner and Jessica and I bought some chocolate and gifts for our kids. For dinner we had Cobb salad and relaxed for the remainder of the evening.

Thursday July 21

We went to Strasbourg, France with the kids. Jessica had remembered going there as a kid and wanted to go back. It made for a great day trip.

When we arrived we ate lunch on the square next to the cathedral. After lunch we visited some of the souvenir shops and each bought a French doll for our girls. We also went inside the cathedral to see the clock go off. The dinging clock was a little anti climatic and just had two little dings and two figures move. Then we walked over to La Petite France to see all the little neat buildings. We then walked up the river to see some neat bridges and walked across one of the bridges. We found a little park for the kids to play and we went and got some ice cream. We got home late from Strasbourg and had BLTs for dinner.
